Donation

           USA Deaf Sports Federation

To Whom It May Concern,

On behalf of the USA Deaf Orienteering (USADO), we are seeking donation for our new founded team.  In 1997, orienteering was approved in the Deaflympics as a new sport competition as part of the Summer World Games.  Since then, Deaf Europeans have always been strong participants in the sport in the Deaflympics.  In the United States, orienteering is now becoming familiar and popular.  With that, the USADO has established a new account with US Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) to help support the team that represents us in international and invitational events.

The funds will help us promote the sport across the country as well.  We would like to visit the west coast and extend an invitation to other potential athletes to try out the sport.  The account will be funded by individual contributions and ongoing fundraising efforts run by the USADO.  Yes, the USADSF is a non-profit organization.  All donations are tax-deductible!

What is Orienteering?  Orienteering is a sport of navigation with a map and a compass.  The object is to run to a series of points shown on the map, choosing routes, both on and off trail, that will help you find all the points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time.  The sport has been dominated in Europe and it is now growing popularity in the USA.

Right now, we are in preparation for the Deaflympics, September 5-15, 2009, which will be hosted in Taipei, Taiwan.  We have 2 women on the team.  The cost for this trip, which includes transportation, accommodations, meals, uniforms and entry fees will be approximately $5,000 per person.  In total we need $15,000 to send 2 orienteers – Tracy Acuff and Patti Mace and a coach - Mark Mace,  to our very FIRST USA Deaflympics.  Any contributions you make would be greatly appreciated.  Our goal is to raise the funds needed for this trip by end of June 2009.

Also, please forward this letter and form to anyone who might be able to help.   Donation letter / Donation form. (pdf format)

Feel free to read more information at www.usdeafsports.org or email us at donation@usadeaforienteering.com.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
